ABOITIZ Football Cup’s 26th Edition officially launched its Davao City leg from Oct. 10 to 11, 2026, at the Tionko Football Grounds, with 232 teams participating from all over Mindanao.
This year’s bigger football tournament opened more categories and has scheduled four playing days in the month of October with a goal to promote sports and grassroots development in Mindanao.
The opening ceremony was attended by key representatives of Aboitiz Power, Aboitiz Foundation, Davao Light and Power Company Inc., Davao-South Regional Football Association, CR7 Food Truck Football Club, Inc., and the City Sports Development Division.
Players took part in an oath of sportsmanship, and guest speakers delivered their messages of support for the participants to foster moral, fair, and respectful behavior during games.
Days one and two featured categories of U6, U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U12 Mixed, U15 Boys, U17 Girls, 30 and 40 and older, Women’s Open, and Mommies. Winners were honored at the awards ceremony in the afternoon.
Days three and four, which are set for Oct. 17 and 18, will have U16 and U18 Boys and Men’s Open categories. Champions for U16 and U18 will compete against other champions in other regions.
The Aboitiz Football Cup is the Philippines’ longest-running grassroots football tournament and has held regional legs in the country to develop young Filipino athletes to compete at major football events.
Michael Denton “Mikey” Aportadera, head of the City Sports Development Division, said in an interview that the event gives the children equal opportunities to showcase their skills and talents in sports whether they win or lose.
“I’m very happy that Aboitiz looks into the possibility of improving our football community in Davao City starting with the development stage of the kids,” Aportadera said.
Aboitiz Foundation Impact Lead Fred Dalumpines shared that the Aboitiz Football Cup also incorporates the “Wasteless Campaign,” where they will encourage football clubs to join coastal cleanups to support the green initiatives of the company.
