THE LAND Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board XI will hold a hearing today after summoning the operator and a taxi driver for alleged sexual harassment reported by a high school student.
Atty Deanne Aubrey Salcedo, LTFRB XI legal section assistant, said they issued a show cause order to the respondents on Thursday, January 22.
“As part of our process, we issued a show cause order, and then after that we will have a hearing,” Salcedo said.
Salcedo added they verified the information first, considering the sensitivity of the issue and those involved. The office immediately contacted the account user to get the information, including the name and the plate number.
The hearing will determine the appropriate administrative penalties to be imposed on the operator.
Salcedo advised the taxi operators to hire drivers with good conduct and no criminal cases.
“Kung unsay mahitabo, in the LTFRB part, only the operator will be liable. The LTFRB will then coordinate with the LTO on the necessary penalties for the driver,” she said.
Oscar Don Zamora, Land Transportation Office–Davao City North District head, said the driver will be summoned as part of due process in handing out sanctions or penalties.
“The highest penalty will be revocation of the license. We can take away their privilege to drive, revoke their license, so that they cannot apply for a period of years,” Zamora said.
Typically, in revocation of licenses, the driver can reapply after three years, after undergoing necessary training and seminars.
The incident, which was posted on Facebook, quickly went viral on Thursday and now has 9.8k reactions and 12.3k shares.
