MAWAB, DAVAO DE ORO — Mayor Myrill Apit expressed her deepest sympathy to the victims, their families, and the entire community affected by the tragic shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City.
“The loss of young lives and the injuries suffered by students in what should be a safe place for learning are truly heartbreaking. On behalf of the people of Mawab, I extend my sincere condolences and prayers to the families of the victims and wish the injured learners a full and speedy recovery,” Apit said.
The mayor emphasized that every child deserves to feel safe and protected in school, where learning, growth, and friendship should flourish free from fear and violence.
In light of the incident, Mayor Apit reaffirmed the Municipal Government of Mawab’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of young learners throughout the municipality.
“We cannot allow violence to threaten the future of our children. As your mayor, I will continue working closely with our schools, parents, teachers, and relevant agencies to help ensure that our learners are safe, supported, and protected,” she said.
Apit also pledged to provide assistance and support to educational institutions in Mawab through programs and initiatives that promote school safety, student welfare, and violence prevention.
“Our schools must remain places of learning, respect, and hope. We will continue to support efforts that strengthen student protection and create environments where every child can thrive without fear,” she added.
The mayor likewise reiterated her strong opposition to bullying in all its forms, stressing that acts of intimidation, harassment, and abuse can have serious consequences for the emotional and mental well-being of young people.
“There is no place for bullying in our schools or communities. We must teach our children the values of kindness, respect, and compassion. By standing together against bullying and violence, we can build safer schools and a brighter future for our youth,” Apit said.
Mayor Apit called on the community to remain vigilant and work together in protecting children, ensuring that schools remain safe spaces where students can pursue their education and dreams with confidence and security.
