Dr. Maria Theresa Bad-ang, head of the Kidney and Transplant Institute, said the facility will provide essential services of hemodialysis, a 100 bed dialysis center, peritoneal dialysis, immunology lab, and others.
The building presently has a 62 bed capacity available and SPMC has experienced a high number of patients of more or less 200 census per day.
Bad-ang added that SPMC continues to advocate for kidney disease prevention to encourage citizens for screenings and practice a healthy lifestyle.
“We have to inform the public na hindi matakot sa dialysis and dialysis is not permanent. It is just there na mag breach from trialysis to transplant,” she said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw on Nov 24.
According to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), patients undergoing dialysis treatment in the Philippines reached 64,845 in 2024 which is an increased 22% from the 53,296 in 2023.
