- 8 dead, over 84,000 displaced across Davao Region
A PERSISTENT shear line has left a trail of destruction across the Davao Region, claiming eight lives and forcing more than 84,000 people to flee their homes as floods and landslides tear through dozens of barangays.
As of 8 a.m. on Feb. 21, 2026, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) XI reported that the extreme weather has impacted 65 barangays.
The casualties include four victims from Barangay Central, Mati City, and three from Barangay Rizal, Monkayo, with validation currently ongoing for the remaining reported deaths.
According to the report, the total affected involved 20,892 families, totaling 84,208 individuals.
Currently, 1,169 families are seeking refuge inside 51 established evacuation centers, while 18,628 families are displaced outside of these centers.
Meanwhile, 47 barangays reported flooding, and 33 experienced landslides, primarily along national and local roads.
The sheer line has crippled local infrastructure, with six roads remaining impassable to all vehicles in Monkayo and Montevista, while three bridges in Montevista and Davao de Oro have been declared unpassable.
In response to the escalating situation, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-RDRRMC XI has raised its EOC status to Blue Alert.
To date, ₱843,020 in assistance has been provided to affected families, with the bulk of the funding coming from the DSWD XI.
Search and rescue operations continue in landslide-affected areas in Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental as authorities monitor the weather for further threats.
