KASANAG, a Visayan word which means brightness, is the place where the foundation was started by a group that gave hope to the lives of the members of the community.

Kaugmaran Pagpagahum Foundation Inc. is a non-profit institution founded on Nov. 5, 1991, by socially oriented professionals who believe in the mission to uplift the quality of life of the marginalized urban poor of Davao City by enabling them to empower themselves.

KPFI, in the early 1980s, was a multi-sectoral non-government organization committed to human rights advocacy. The organization forged a link with the city government, directly with then-mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte so that the government could be more responsive to the plight of evacuees, which also included fire victims in Davao City.

At the Kasanag Training Center located in Barangay Sto. Nino, Tugbok District in Mintal, the community gathered on Dec. 20, 2025, to attend mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel M. Gonzaga, followed by a simple Christmas party.

Programs of the foundation include value formation, basic literacy, and scholarships, which extend financial assistance to children and their families who are members of the organization, Day Care learning for non-members of the KPFI, socio-economic livelihood, advocacy for women, and ecology, among others.

Dr. Ronald Tangente, chairperson, welcomed the members who brought food with them for the party. Gifts in kind were distributed, and raffle prizes were part of the fun at the gathering.

Hosting the Christmas party were Joseph Macaylas- KPFP operational head, Milagros S. Teves – vice chair of KPFI, Alex Mandin, Dr. Ronald Tangente, and Girlie G. Yap, a volunteer for Urban Poor Women
