- Coastal road Segment B now passable to motorists 24/7
THE ROXAS Rotunda exit of the Davao City Coastal Road officially opened to motorists at 6 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, further aggravating the holiday traffic congestion.
As of 9:43 a.m. Friday, traffic personnel reported that the flow along Segment B was being closely monitored. However, the vehicle queue stretched as far as 300 meters along the Davao City Coastal Road.
By noon time, the tail-end of the traffic from Roxas Rotunda was about to reach the Bucana Bridge.
Motorists pile up at the merging point as the four lanes of the coastal road shift into two lanes as vehicles exit from the Roxas Rotunda toward Quezon Boulevard.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) originally scheduled the opening to ease the heavy traffic typical of the Yuletide season. But the launch comes after several brief postponements.
The DPWH XI previously moved the scheduled opening from Dec. 15 and 16 to conduct further safety assessments to protect motorists.
Initial plans suggested a restricted schedule of 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the road is now accessible 24/7 as of early Friday morning.
Advisory for motorists
The DPWH and local traffic authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperative during the initial phase of the road’s operation.
Motorists are strictly advised to observe all traffic rules and heed the instructions of personnel stationed along the route.
