WELL, the so-called prayer rally on Sunday, Sept. 21, will definitely be attended by a throng of people. Some will be there to express their support to the former President, especially those coming from the middle to high echelons of Davao Society.
But there could possibly be doubts as to the real intention of the majority of would-be attendees. Imagine the mouth-watering enticement to join the activity! One hundred (100) heads of lechon baka (roasted cow) will be readied for lunch and possibly dinner! And certainly there will be other menus like the usual noodles and grilled fish. Whose courtesy are all of these, we have no idea.
But we are certain that with the prayer rally held in Davao City, the bailiwick of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, there will be many who are willing to sponsor or donate the food for tens of thousands of prayer warriors and rally participants.
We will not be surprised if the prayer rally tomorrow could morph into some kind of a “street party” and hopefully not the bacchanalian feast type of filling the stomach.
One question that some people could harbor in their minds is whether or not the same offer of gastronomic relief will also be enjoyed by prayer-rally participants in other areas in the Philippines where such activity is expected to be held simultaneously with the Davao City version..
Let us to see, according to the favorite end-quote of the late Davaoeno Senator Alejandro “Landring” Almendras.

And talking of the same prayer rally that is also planned to be held in Metro Manila, which the mouthpieces of the organizers are openly advocating to turn the same into a “people power” out to drive the tenant of Malacanang, will they be able to generate more than enough participants to ignite a people’s open, bloodless revolt against the sitting President?
Will the organizers succeed in poisoning the minds of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other armed services groups to withdraw support to the President and his government? The only possible option in order to make the desire of the anti-Marcos Jr.’s leadership is to convince the organizers of the Davao City prayer rally to move themselves to Manila and join their counterparts there by adding themselves to the protesters in the very place that hosts the seat of political power.
So, is Cebu crowd can also augment their Metro Manila counterpart if indeed they are willing to succeed in driving out the President from the Palace.
Unfortunately, for now, not one from among tomorrow’s rally organizers has expressed willingness to shoulder the bills in transporting the prayer and rally participants to the Metro.
Hence, much as the participants are clearly supportive of the former President, their being in different locations in the country hinders the main objective of their mass action.

Vice President Sara Duterte was quoted in a social media post as saying, “Hindi man lang nila magawa na ikulong si Martin Romualdez diyan sa detention unit sa House of Representatives?”
Clearly, they cannot. Why, because the former Speaker was not investigated, nor was he called in a House Hearing as a resource person in regards to the corruption-laden flood control projects where his name was mentioned as the top beneficiary of alleged kickbacks.
If VP Sara really wants to have the former top House official probed on the same allegation of corrupt practices may be it is the opportune time for her to test the guts and loyalty of the members of the Duterte bloc in the Senate. She should ask them to initiate moves to pressure the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, chaired by Sen. Panfilo Lacson, to invite Romualdez as a resource person.
And if the Duterte bloc can see or feel even just a whiff of opportunity, any one of them moves for a declaration of contempt on Romualdez. If they succeed, then the VP will have her wish of having the former Speaker detained, even if for a shorter duration only, granted.
What about that Madam VP Sara? Is it not worth a try?
