  • Davao City okays P2.7-M worth of help to Davao Oriental

DAVAO City on Tuesday, Oct. 28, extended financial aid to the Davao Oriental province, cities, and municipalities that declared a state of calamity after the Magnitude 7.4 and 6.9 earthquakes last Oct. 10, 2025.

The 21st City Council approved six ordinances on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, providing financial aid totaling P2.7 million.

The financial assistance covers the following: 

1. Province of Davao Oriental- P1 million
2. City of Mati- P500, 000
3. Municipality of Manay- P300,000
4. Municipality of Caraga- P300,000
5. Municipality of Bangaga- P300,000
6. Municipality of Tarragona- P300, 000

Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, committee chair on finance, ways, means, and appropriations, said the funds will be sourced from the 30% Quick Response Fund (QRF) portion of the 5% Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (DRRMF) for the calendar year 2025.

Dayanghirang emphasized that the city has sufficient funds left to support in case of an emergency. 

“We still have an available balance of P204,075,000; therefore, as far as Davao City is concerned, in case of emergency, God forbid, we still have enough money,”  Dayanghirang said. 

To note, on Oct. 21, the city also extended financial aid to the tune of P3.9 million to the Cebu province, cities, and municipalities that declared a State of Calamity after the Magnitude 6.9 earthquake last Sept. 30, 2025.
