INVESTORS are looking to put money into new parking facilities in strategic areas, a Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) official said.
Christian Cambaya, DCIPC Investor Assistance Servicing Unit head, said if the plan pushes through, it will address illegal parking and congestion of existing facilities.
For instance, Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC), owner of Jollibee and Chowking, is planning to develop a 2,000-square-meter property located across Abreeza Mall in Bajada into a parking space.
“DCIPC met with JFC officials as they said they are interested in potential public-private partnership (PPP) projects in the city,” he said.

He added that they are negotiating the construction of a parking building on a vacant space previously used by the Office of the City Building Official and a property near Davao City Overland Transport Terminal.
“He is looking at the first few floors as commercial stores, and the next floors will be parking, and the succeeding floor will be government offices,” Cambaya said.
He added that the JFC will still have to submit a formal proposal to the DCIPC.
Alsons Development and Investment Corporation, on the other hand, will utilize its Aldevinco property in Roxas St. as a temporary pay parking area.
“This is still temporary as the master plan for its redevelopment is ongoing,” he said.
The official, however, said there are no investors yet for a vertical pay parking building.
