LAW ENFORCEMENT agencies across the Davao Region are shifting to high alert as they launch a comprehensive security sweep of churches, tourist destinations, and coastal resorts ahead of the Holy Week observance.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, March 25, Police Regional Office (PRO) XI spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey announced that the regional command is aiming for a “zero incident” goal.

Dela Rey confirmed that personnel deployment will not be limited to urban centers but extends to far-flung tourist spots across the region.

To augment the regular police force, PRO XI is actively coordinating with barangay tanods to increase the frequency of patrols in residential and high-traffic areas.

“We are monitoring closely, and we hope the commemoration of Holy Week will be zero incident,” Dela Rey said, emphasizing a proactive stance against criminality during the long break.

In the regional capital, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is bracing for a massive influx of devotees.

DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Caballero revealed that security details have been finalized for 56 churches within the city limits.

Beyond the pews, Caballero noted that the police presence would be felt in recreational areas as well.

“We will also deploy personnel in resorts and on beaches. Our officers will conduct active patrols near these areas to ensure the safety of vacationers,” Caballero said.

The mobilization comes at a critical time for the region, as authorities are already stretched thin monitoring the ongoing fuel supply issues and the “State of National Energy Emergency.”

The PNP is urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the designated emergency hotlines as the Catholic faithful begin their annual pilgrimage and travel for the summer break.
