PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Director General Jose Melencio Nartatez has directed local authorities to solve the killing of Barangay Captain Oscar “Dodong” Bucol or face administrative relief.
Speaking to Davao media on Monday morning at the PRO XI headquarters, Nartatez revealed that the investigation into the November 2025 assassination remains a top priority, although a timeline for its resolution has not been set.
“I [will] have the provincial director relieved if this is not resolved,” Nartatez stated.
He compared the case to his tenure at the NCRPO, where a high-profile road-rage incident on EDSA was solved in under 20 hours, leading to a conviction within six months. “It’s shameful if it’s not immediately resolved,” he added.
“So in here. Regional director [while he was looking at PRO XI director Brig Gen Leon Victor Rosete], ensure to enforce investigative solution not only on this case. And I have a track on that. And it’s near [solution of the case],” he added.
Rosete then replied,” Yes, it’s near.”
Bucol, the village chief of Tres de Mayo, was gunned down by unidentified assailants in November 2025 while in the middle of a Facebook Live broadcast.
While the motive remains murky, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) XI previously suggested that the perpetrator might be a member of law enforcement or a government official.
Nartatez also confirmed he has been in direct communication with Davao del Sur congressman John Tracy Cagas regarding the progress of the case.
“I have talked to him, and I have given the update… Hopefully, we can resolve that.
