DAVAO City was hailed as the second safest city in the country for 2025, the travel website World Travel Index (WTI) revealed.
While it lags behind Dumaguete City, which topped the list with 81.36, Davao City secured a safety score of 80.73. Out of 3,028 cities, Davao ranked 1,132 globally.
“This ranking shows which cities offer the best conditions for safety during travel. The better the ranking and the higher the value, the more safety this city can offer. The worse the ranking and the lower the value, the less safety this city can offer,” WTI said.
WTI is a travel website that compiles and analyzes tourism-related data in various categories, such as cost, activities, safety, infrastructure, and total tourist appeal, to generate travel-based rankings.
The overall safety score is computed using five subcategories– Day, Night, Theft-Free, Drug-Free, Violence-Free– based on the Numbeo Crime Index, a user-contributed survey evaluating cities based on crime rates, police efficiency, and public perception of safety.
Davao City gained a rating of 89.1% for its safety during the day, 83.12% for safety during night, theft-free (77.13%), drug-free (72.57%), and violence-free (80.89%).
Other cities in the country that made it to the Top 10 are: Bulacan placing third with 76.42%; Balanga, Bataan with 76.15 (4th); Lucena, Quezon with 75.24 (5th); Naga City, Camarines Sur is sixth with 75.02%; Baguio City is 7th with 73.99%; Puerto Princesa with 71.34% (8th); Legazpi City with 71.34% (9th); and Makati City placed 10th with 70.41%.
It has to be noted that the travel portal utilizes an AI-assisted aggregated analysis of 50 million travel websites as well as user assessments from Reddit or Quora, so the accuracy of information depends on the quality of data sourced from other travel websites.
