  • Tip-off leads to son’s arrest in Bunawan marijuana bust

A MOTHER’S difficult decision to report her own son to authorities led to the seizure of about than P1.5 million worth of marijuana in Bunawan District, Davao City, on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025. 

According to the report, the police confiscated approximately 1,000 grams of suspected dried marijuana leaves from alias Angelo, a 20-year-old construction worker and resident of Purok 6-A, Aplaya, Bunawan.

The operation was initiated after his mother, Alice, 42, called the police station to report her son’s erratic behavior and her discovery of a large block of marijuana in his backpack. She made the call to Bunawan Police Station (PS6)at around 9:30 a.m. 

She informed authorities about finding a block of suspected dried marijuana leaves wrapped in transparent plastic cellophane inside her son’s red JanSport backpack.

Acting on the information, personnel from PS6 Bunawan, led by Cpt Ramil Anthony Maxey under the supervision of Major Janus Lumbaya M. Macli-ing, proceeded to the suspect’s residence.

The operation resulted in Angelo’s immediate apprehension and the confiscation of the contraband. He is facing a charge for violating Sec. 11 of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, for possession of illegal drugs.
