ILLEGALLY parked vehicles will be subject to clamping, and owners will be penalized in the proposed Wheel Clamp Ordinance of the city.
Councilor Luna Acosta said on Tuesday, Aug. 5, that they held coordination meetings with the Public Safety and Security Office and the City Transport and Traffic Management Office to refine the proposed ordinance.
“We noticed there has been an increase in illegal street parking in the city,” Acosta said during the Pulong Pulong sa Dabawenyos on Tuesday.
The committee on peace and public safety chair stressed that illegal street parking contributes to the traffic problems in the city.
“We will designate clamping areas in the downtown and other streets. If you park there, your car will be clamped,” she said.
She added that the clamped vehicles can not be returned to the owner unless the fine is settled.
The proposed penalties will range from P1,000- P3,000 depending on the size of the vehicles.
The ordinance will require amendment of the Traffic Code, as it requires an additional power to the CTTMO as the implementing agency.
The Committee is also in talks with the CTTMO to align with the proposed smart pay parking system of the city for necessary adjustments. The councilor said they are eyeing the approval of the ordinance before the year ends.
