  • Expect traffic as infrastructure scheduled for month-long repair

THE AGDAO Flyover will be temporarily closed for all types of vehicles for a month-long rehabilitation from Sept. 5 to Oct. 5, the City Traffic and Transport Management Office (CTTMO) announced on Wednesday.

CTTMO said the closure is necessary to ensure the safety of motorists and improve bridge integrity.

Motorists are advised to take alternate routes during the one-month closure to avoid heavy traffic congestion and travel delays.

Councilor Jopet Baluran passed the resolution under suspended rules during the 21st City Council’s regular session on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Lilibeth Sarmiento, Davao City 3rd Engineering District Office OIC, requested the closure due to the visible cracks in some parts of the infrastructure that needed urgent repairs.

A representative from the Department of Public Works and Highways said they will install expansion joints to address the cracks, which have already caused leaks under the bridge.

Councilor Sweet Advincula said the CTTMO is requested to present the traffic management plan in the area at the next regular session on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

Councilor Diosdado Mahipus Jr. said the traffic plan should consider the ongoing repair of the Dacudao. “If we close the flyover, ma choke ang Agdao natin, tapos doon pa naman dumadaan papuntang R. Castillo,” Mahipus said.

Under the Agdao Flyover is the choke point of the vehicular traffic from Cabaguio, Dacudao, Lapu-lapu, R. Castillo, and Leon Garcia.

The City Council approved the resolution, provided the CTTMO will submit a comprehensive traffic plan with the alternative routes for the riding public.
