March 16 is special non-working day in Davao City

MALACAÑANG declared March 16, 2026, as a special (non-working) day in Davao City to mark the celebration of Araw ng Pasasalamat in relation to the 89th Araw ng Davao.

Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto signed Proclamation No. 1174 on Feb. 20, which read in part, “It is fitting and proper that the people of the City of Davao be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration.” 

March 16 falls on a Monday.

During the 88th celebration last year, March 16 was a Sunday, which moved the non-working day to March 17.

This year’s edition of the begins with 89th Araw ng Dabaw Misa Pasasalamat at 4:30 p.m. at San Pedro Cathedral; the Pasiugdang Pagsaulog (Grand Opening) at 6 p.m. at City Hall of Davao; the opening of the Araw ng Dabaw Trade Fair and Bazaar (9:00 p.m.) at Magsaysay Park; and the 100 Years of City Hall: Projection Mapping (every night from March 1–31) at City Hall.

On March 3, 5, and 10, the Dabawenyo Ko: School-Based Tour takes place at Los Amigos Elementary School, Villaruel Elementary School, and Marilog Central Elementary School. 

On March 7, 8, 20, 21, and 22, Kundiman at Harana sa Araw ng Dabaw will be held at City Hall. 

On March 8, the Mutya ng Dabaw 2026 preliminaries start at 4 p.m. at SM City Davao (Ecoland).

From March 9, 11, and 16, Araw ng Dabaw sa Distrito will be celebrated in various barangays across districts: Barangay Matina Aplya, Barangay 8-A, and Barangay Malabog.

The Salida Dabawenyo: The Inter-School Short Film Competition runs March 10–13, with film showings at Cinematheque Davao. 

Another set of Dabawenyo Ko: School-Based Tours will be conducted on March 12, 17, and 19 at Magsaysay Elementary School, Pag-IBIG Elementary School, and Daniel M. Perez Elementary School.

On March 13, Pasidungog 2026: Garbo sa Dabaw will be held at 1 p.m. at SMX Convention Center Davao, while March 14 and 21 feature the Dabawenyo Ko: Heritage Walking Tour – City Hall, while March 15 hosts the Mutya ng Dabaw 2026: The Interview Rounds at 3 p.m. at Sta. Lucia Mall Davao.

On March 18, the 54th Conferment of Datu Bago Awards takes place at 5 p.m.at Royal Mandaya Hotel. March 20 includes both the Mutya ng Dabaw 2026: The Grand Coronation Night at 7 p.m. at University of Southeastern Philippines Gymnasium and Cultural Center and the 2GO Gwapa Dabawenya at 4:00 PM along Davao City Coastal Road. 

On March 21, the RLC Ironkids Davao Aquathlon will also be held at the Coastal Road, followed by the BYD Ironman 70.3 Davao on March 22 at the same venue.

March 24 marks Araw ng mga Empleyado at 8 p.m. at the Davao City Recreation Center, while Mercado Dabawenyo opens and will run from March 24–28 at Rizal Park. 

On March 27, the Kanta ug Sayaw Dabawenyo Grand Finals will be staged at Rizal Park at 6 p.m.

On March 28, the culmination day, Parada Dabawenyo takes place at 6 a.m. from Roxas Avenue to San Pedro Square, while the Konsierto Dabawenyo takes place at 7 p.m. at San Pedro Square.
