by Contributor

CONSUL General Ono Hirotaka and Mayor Ruel Molina of the Municipality of  Kumalarang signed a grant contract for the project titled “The Project for the Construction of Rice  Post-Harvest Facility in Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur,” under Japan’s Official Development  Assistance (ODA) through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) on Sept. 29.

The grant, amounting to 71,100 US dollars (approximately 4.39 million pesos), will be  used for the construction of one rice post-harvest facility and the provision of one rice milling  machine. Through this project, the Municipality of Kumalarang aims to establish a direct rice  procurement and distribution system, thereby ensuring a stable supply of hygienically dried and  milled rice for local residents and contributing to the improvement of the living standards of rice  farmers in the municipality.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) was established in 1989 to support small-scale development projects that directly benefit communities at the grassroots level and contribute to local socio-economic development. Eligible recipients include local government units,  educational, research, and medical institutions, non-governmental organizations, people’s organizations, and cooperatives.

The Consulate of Japan in Davao accepts applications for GGP throughout the year.  Interested parties may read the guidelines carefully and submit a concept paper and documentary requirements. Further information can be obtained through the Consulate-General’s Official  Website: https://www.davao.ph.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_ja/11_000001_00229.html.
