THE DAVAO City Coastal Road became the epicenter of the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon race on Sunday, March 22, and concluded without any incident thanks to the security blanket provided by the local law enforcement.
Acting city police director Col Mannan Caracas Muarip spearheaded the area security coverage, overseeing a deployment designed to protect hundreds of triathletes, event staff, and thousands of spectators lining the scenic coastal route.
He said securing the international race proved the city’s ability to host large-scale sporting events with professional precision.
With the race course spanning a significant portion of the city’s newest infrastructure, the DCPO focused on maintaining a sterile environment for the athletes while ensuring public safety for the crowds.
“The ongoing conduct of the event not only safeguarded all attendees but also showcased the city’s capability to manage large-scale gatherings with professionalism and efficiency,” Muarip stated.
The official also said the IRONMAN 70.3 event also served as a showcase for the “Davao brand” of tourism, where natural charm meets a high standard of public security.
Previously, Public Safety and Security Office chief Angel Sumagaysay said that Davao City’s security cluster has deployed over 7,000 warm bodies to secure the IRONMAN 70.3, the Parada Dabawenyo, and other Araw ng Dabaw activities.
