THE Committee on Tourism announced the its list of events for the upcoming week-long celebration of the 28th founding anniversary of the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS) from Feb. 26 to March 7, 2026.

With the theme, “Pahiyom sa Kasaulugan, Kadasig sa Kalambuan,” this year’s celebration will highlight the rebranding phase of the Island, as they will launch their new city logo and brand name, “Dive into Beauty.”

Clavel Ann A. David, committee chairperson, said the city is gearing up for the possible surge of tourist to visit the island during the festivities.

“We have expected tourists to visit our island about 700,000, more or less. But in the week-long celebration, we are hopeful that the number is substantial,” David said.

David further assured the extended maritime travel operations during the celebration, catering to foreign and local visitors, and to ensure a stress-free trip for those who wish to enter the island.

This year’s founding anniversary will feature several events, including the Binibining IGACOS pageant, tourism immersion programs, coastal clean-up, sports competition, and a live performance from a national artist.

Meanwhile, she addressed the possible “overtourism” claims, revealing their plans on social and environmental security upscaling once the Samal Island-Davao City Connector opens.

“We will be requesting the national (government) to deploy more police officers to Samal. But Samal is ready when it comes to waste management. And we are also planning and making preparations to address traffic,” she stated.
