  • Driver and back rider killed in alleged Davao highway race

AN ALLEGED late-night illegal street race ended in tragedy shortly past 2 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, leaving two dead and another rider critically injured after a multi-motorcycle collision along the Davao–Bukidnon Road in Barangay Catalunan Pequeño.

According to the initial Davao City Police Office (DCPO) report, three motorcycles were allegedly drag racing along the highway when they struck the victims’ southbound motorcycle.

The high-speed impact triggered a chain-reaction crash, throwing a rider and her passenger off their vehicle.

Both victims died on the spot from severe injuries. Police officials identified the victims only as alias Lovely, 27, and alias Angel. Their remains have been brought to a local mortuary for further personal details.

Emergency responders rushed one of the involved riders, identified as alias Shane, to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), where she remains in critical condition.

Following the collision, one of the suspected racers fled the scene and is currently the subject of a police manhunt.

However, Baliok Police Station officers apprehended another participating rider, who is now in custody facing prospective charges of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide, physical injuries, and damage to property.

Traffic investigators and Baliok police personnel are gathering CCTV footage from nearby commercial establishments along the Catalunan Pequeño stretch to identify the fleeing suspect and establish the precise timeline of the fatal crash.

As of press time, the DCPO said Baliok police investigators are continuing their inquiry to confirm whether all involved parties were directly participating in an illegal drag race.
