DAVAO Light’s overall residential electricity rate dropped by P1.4875 per kilowatt hour (kWh) this October, the power distribution utility announced on Wednesday.

This brings the rate down to P9.1532/kWh this October from P10.6407/kWh last month.

Davao Light said the electricity rate applies to bills received from October 11 to November 10, 2025.

“The adjustment is due to lower power supply prices from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, where Davao Light sources part of its power requirement,” it said.

The rates for th Oct-Nov billing is lower but is still slightly higher compared to the P9.0782/kWh in August.

Davao Light stressed that monthly changes in prices are expected as market prices are volatile.

“Even with the decreased rate, the power distribution utility encourages customers to efficiently manage their energy consumption to avoid high electricity bills,” the distribution utility said.

Davao Light recommended checking the estimated daily or monthly energy usage for each appliance by determining the appliance wattage, the average number of hours the household uses, the number of days the household uses the appliance in a month, and checking the rates.

To calculate the Kilowatt-Hours (kWh), the formula, (Wattage / 1000) x Hours Used x Days = Total kWh) to calculate the energy consumption for a single appliance. To estimate the cost, the total kWh should be multiplied by the rate.

It can be noted that the P10.6407/kWh last September was due to higher power supply prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) following power plant outages, which is among the factors that led to the yellow alerts issued by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in August.
