LAWMAKERS approved on Tuesday an ordinance endorsing the affiliation initiative between Davao City and the City of Dalian, People’s Republic of China.

The ordinance was authored by Councilor Rachel Zozobrado, committee chair on international relations.

Zozobrado explained that the City of Davao has received a proposal to establish an affiliation initiative with the City of Dalian.

The partnership is aimed at enhancing cooperation in trade and investment promotion, technology sharing, education, tourism, and cultural linkages.

“The proposed affiliation initiative will foster closer ties between the two cities and promote mutual prosperity through joint programs and projects beneficial to both parties,” the ordinance reads.

Both local governments will sign a sister city agreement to formalize the said affiliation initiative.

For Asian countries, Davao City has existing agreements with Tai’an City and Jinjiang City of the People’s Republic of China and Kitakyushu City, Senan City, Hamamatsu City of Japan, and the County of Kaua’i, Hawaii, USA.
