THE DAVAO River Bridge or Bucana Bridge is now 99.2% complete, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported on Monday, following the November 19, 2025, ocular inspection.

In a statement, Public Works Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain said remaining minor works for the bridge will be completed by the end of November.

These include pavement markings at Approach Road 1, sidewalks and fencing, and final installation of electrical components and system connections.

“We are expediting the completion of the bridge’s final requirements so it can be safely opened to the public. Our priority is to deliver this bridge with the highest level of quality, safety standards, and structural integrity,” Sadain said.

The Bucana Bridge is expected to open by December following the completion of the asphalt road to Quezon Boulevard.

The asphalt road serves as the main access route for motorists traveling to and from the Bucana Bridge and the Davao City Coastal Road.

The China Aid Localized Project, or known as the Bucana Bridge, is a key component of the Davao City Coastal Road Network, designed to improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity across the Davao River.

Bucana Bridge features a four-lane, six-span extradosed bridge stretching 480.20 meters across the Davao River, with a total project length of 1,340 meters when including the 860 meters approach roads.

The bridge is through a ₱3.126-billion China Aid Grant program of the Government of the People’s Republic of China, which construction began in 2023.
