THE MINDANAO Development Authority (MinDA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF) to strengthen the international scholarship program.
MinDA and PAEF, or Fulbright Philippines, signed the partnership on Sept. 25, at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City.
In his message, Secretary Leo Tereso A. Magno, MinDA chairperson, said the signing empowers Mindanaoans as it opens opportunities for scholars and professionals.
“Through this Memorandum of Understanding, MinDA and the Fulbright Commission reaffirm a shared conviction: that education is the most powerful engine of peace, progress, and prosperity,” Magno stated.
The partnership is aligned with the region’s priorities and opening opportunities for emerging leaders to bring back knowledge that will drive progress in Mindanao.
PAEF, or known as Fulbright Philippines, manages the country’s longest-running international scholarship program.
PAEF recognized that the continued partnership with MinDA will expand access to graduate education and advanced research in priority fields like energy and agriculture, with the collaboration with the U.S. Embassy and academic institutions.
Fulbright Philippines has provided opportunities to more than 4,000 scholars nationwide since 1948.
“With this collaboration, we are ensuring that Mindanao’s brightest minds are represented in this growing community of leaders,” PAEF chairperson Jessica L. Simon said.
MinDA Executive Director and Undersecretary Janet Lopoz highlighted the program’s long-term impact is attributed to developing leaders who can transform knowledge into concrete actions for the growth of the region.
“We are investing in Mindanao’s future and building a bright understanding. Part of MinDA’s initiative is to develop the next generation of leaders who will drive innovation and progress,” Lopoz stressed.
The program is in line with the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028, calling for stronger regional participation in global learning networks while supporting agricultural modernization and energy development as key drivers of Mindanao’s growth.
