ALL QUALIFIED persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the city will soon receive annual financial assistance of P1,500.

Councilor Enzo Villafuerte, chairperson of the civil, political, and human rights committee, said on Friday that it will benefit all PWDs in the city once it is passed as an ordinance.

“The ordinance is entitled Annual Financial Assistance to All Qualified Persons with Disabilities. Dako kaayo ni nga tabang ug dugay na ni ginahulat sa PWDs nato,” Villafuerte said in an interview with city run disaster radio.

The PWD subsidy will have the same amount as the seniors subsidy, which is at P1,500 annually, but might increase as the seniors subsidy is also eyed to be increased.

“This is a big step towards a more inclusive Davao City, more PWD-friendly kay ginasuportahan nato ang sector nga di matagad,” he said.

Persons with apparent disabilities have limited job opportunities, hence the need for governmental support, he added.

The ordinance also includes provisions on penalties for individuals possessing any falsified PWD ID who take advantage of the subsidy.

It will also penalize barangay officials who will release certificates of residency to include a particular person who is not a resident of the city.

“There might be an influx of non-residents just to enjoy the subsidy program of the government. This is only for Davao residents,” he said.

One of the requirements will include a Certificate of residency of at least three years, aside from the PWD ID issued by the Persons with Disability Affairs Office.

Villafuerte said the ordinance was passed on second reading on Sept. 23.
