THE BUNAWAN Bridge 1 (bound to Panabo) along Daang Maharlika Highway will be temporarily closed from Oct. 3 to Oct. 23.
The 21st City Council approved the request of the Department of Public Works and Highways XI on Tuesday for the closure.
It will be closed starting exactly at 12:01 a.m. of Oct. 3 until 12 a.m. of Oct. 23.
According to DPWH, the Bunawan Bridge 1 needs to be closed for vehicular traffic for the purpose of rehabilitation/ major repair and preventive maintenance of the asphalt overlay.
In its request, the DPWH noted that the scope of works includes partial deck slab replacement, installation of carbon fiber sheet on girders, bridge painting, and application of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
In the recommended traffic plan, while Bridge 1 is closed, a two-lane traffic flow will be observed along Bunawan Bridge 2.
The outer lane will be for motorcycles, while the innermost lane is intended for vehicular traffic.
Engr. Jonas Gallego from DPWH-Davao said the closure is necessary to not affect the curing period of the concrete.
Councilor Ralph Abella suggested rerouting the vehicles to the route San Isidro to Bunawan to Mahayag to Cabantian to Barangay Ilang, and vice versa.
Gallego, in response, said they will propose to the City Transport and Traffic Management Office the proposal for a more comprehensive route.
