THERE WILL be a temporary road closure in some streets in San Pedro Square for the “Pray for the Philippines” activity on Sept. 21.
The gathering, scheduled for Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rizal Park, San Pedro Street.
The affected roads include a portion of San Pedro Street at Corner C.M. Recto and San Pedro streets; portion of Bolton st at corner Rizal and Bolton Sts; and portion of C. Bangoy at the corner Rizal and Bangoy street.
The closure will start on Sept. 21 at 1 a.m. for entry of equipment and ends on Sept. 22 at 1 a.m. after the activity proper.
“This public gathering is envisioned to celebrate unity, gratitude,and the collective pursuit of social justice and to pray for divine intervention for a peaceful and prosperous Philippines,” Zegen Management Group said in a request letter.
Zegen added the event will include the playing of worship songs.
In his Facebook page on Monday, Alvin and Tourism, a supporter of the Duterte family, said the event will also pray for the release of former President Rodrigo Duterte and his return to the city.
Dionisio Abude, City Transport and Traffic Management Office chief said the office will deploy 30 personnel to man the traffic in these streets.
“We are expecting congestion as we expect the public to flock but we have been implementing closure for big events in this area,” Abude said.
Meanwhile, the Public Safety and Security Office will deploy 500 personnel to secure the whole duration of the activity.
PSSO Chief Angel Sumagaysay said with the expected crowd, they requested the Davao City Police Office for an augmentation of personnel.
“Kung asa tong closure, didto mi mag deploy ug apil na ang event area,” Sumagaysay said.
