THE CITY Traffic and Transport Management Office announced there will be an additional 150 personnel to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and enforce laws on city roads.
CTTMO Head Dionisio Abude said the additional number is in anticipation of the completion of another segment of the coastal road and bypass roads.
“When that segment of the coastal road opens, we will need additional personnel, so we do not need to pull out from other sections,” Abude said during the Ispeak media forum on Thursday.
Currently, there are more than 700 enforcers, consisting of traffic violation enforcers, special operations teams, and the anti-jaywalking unit, among others.
“Kung tan-awn nato, eight hours ang duty, so hati sya,” he said, noting half of the personnel are on duty during the day and the other half in the evening.
The additional personnel will also be positioned in the new satellite office in Bunawan, which will also cover Lasang. At present, there are only satellite offices in Toril, Mintal, and Panacan.
Additionally, the Anti-Jaywalking Unit will need more personnel to watch over the loading/unloading areas and pedestrian lanes.
He cited, for exampl,e the pedestrian lane fronting Almendras Gym, where it is only dedicated to
PWDs, pregnant women, and senior citizen,s but are used by regular pedestrians.
An overpass is available for use just meters away from the Almendras Gym, but they prefer to use the pedestrian lane.
“We are planning to put a monitoring box in the center island and assign an enforcer to man the pedestrian lanes,” Abude said.
