THE OFFICE of the Vice President (OVP) and City Government of Davao, through Peace 911, signed a memorandum of agreement on Friday, Sept 25, to implement various peace-building projects and activities.
Held at the Apo View Hotel, the signing was attended by Vice President Sara Duterte, city government officials, and representatives of the Department of Education (DepEd) XI and DepEd Davao City Schools Division.
“Today as we celebrate Peace Consciousness Month, we are not simply witnessing the signing of a memorandum of an agreement. We are witnessing a commitment to build peace and to make peace real in the everyday lives of our people,” Duterte said.
Peace 911 will carry out ground-level planning and implementation of the programs as well as monitoring the outcomes of the activities, while the OVP will provide technical support, share resources, and coordinate with national partners.
On the same day, a writeshop for the Dabawenyo D.C.Plinado modules was launched to promote discipline, responsibility, positive values, and good citizenship among students that will help them reflect on local culture, community life, and everyday experiences.
Peace 911 acting head Atty. Jonah Margarette Presto said it has been their dream to include peace education concepts in the module for every public school in the city.
Duterte also urged for timely interventions against bullying, abuse, and violence to protect the students and school staff.
She added that schools and government agencies must act to prevent incidents such as the recent campus shootings in the country.
