THE SENATE Impeachment Court is set to issue a subpoena commanding Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte to appear and testify on Wednesday, September 23, in the ongoing impeachment trial of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
The order aims to address potential conflicts of interest and the alleged misuse of public funds involving corporate entities linked to the Vice President’s family during her tenure as local chief executive.
Prosecution panel spokesperson Atty. Benjamin Tolosa Jr. confirmed the move during a press conference following the impeachment trial hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
“We want to specify the companies where she has financial interests, specifically Gen Corp, to be precise. In his capacity as Mayor of Davao, we want to determine if this company had any official transactions or dealings with the city government of Davao,” Tolosa told national media in Tagalog.
“As for the specific details, let us wait and see when he takes the witness stand,” Tulusa added.
The subpoena comes as house prosecutors focus on Vice President Duterte’s historical financial disclosures and corporate dealings.
Central to the line of questioning is whether corporate entities associated with the Duterte family secured municipal contracts, permits, or financial advantages from the Davao City government—both during Vice President Duterte’s term as mayor and under her brother’s current administration.
Sebastian Duterte, who succeeded his sister as mayor, will be required to present municipal records and clarify whether local government funds or contracts intersected with the specified private firms.
As of press time, the Davao City Government and the City Information Office have not issued an official statement regarding the Senate subpoena.
