ADDRESSING the critical intersection of gut health, nutrition, and aging, GutGuard, the Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), and Merav Bio-Nutraceuticals Corporation formalized a strategic partnership through a memorandum of agreement signing held last March 28.
The collaboration brings together interdisciplinary expertise and advanced technology to tackle global health issues that demand focused, science-led innovation.

The said agreement between the three institutions represents a shared commitment to co-create comprehensive gut health and healthy-aging programs. Beyond product development, the partnership also endeavors to support student theses and bridge the gap between academic research and practical wellness solutions.
Representing the Davao-based company GutGuard was its Chairman and CEO, Col. Shane Animas (Ret) ME. Known for its advanced gut health supplements, specifically SynBIOTIC+, which combines prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics for enhanced immunity and digestion, GutGuard aims to transition from a product provider to a research-driven health partner.

“Users can expect more than just a supplement experience, as this partnership elevates our brand into a science-backed, community-integrated health system,” Animas shared.
He added that the agreement ensures that the public will gain increased access to research-informed protocols and credible guidance. This structured approach is expected to yield measurable health outcomes through community-based wellness initiatives, screenings, and educational outreach.
MSU-IIT, renowned for its excellence in science, technology, and engineering, provides a robust foundation for this initiative. The institute hosts seven colleges dedicated to research and community engagement, ensuring the collaboration is grounded in academic rigor.

Present during the signing ceremony include Professor Roberto Malaluan, representing MERAV Bio-Nutraceuticals president Engr. Roly Michael Racsa, and MSU-IIT vice chancellor for international affairs Joey Genevieve T. Martinez, who represented chancellor Prof. Alizedney M. Ditucalan.

Also in attendance were College of Health Sciences dean Prof. Minnie B. Mamuag, and Prof. Imelu G. Mordeno, Research Institute for Business, Education, Health, and Social Sciences (RIBEHSS) executive director.
