A DECADE-LONG run from the law ended on Tuesday afternoon, March 17, after a 39-year-old fugitive was arrested while attempting to apply for a clearance at the Talomo Police Station.
The suspect, identified only by the alias Vince, was taken into custody at approximately 2:11 p.m. at the police sub-station in Matina Crossing.
According to a report from Police Station 3 (Talomo), the suspect was in the middle of processing his documents when his name triggered a hit on the National Police Clearance System (NPCS) for a standing warrant.
Operatives, led by Capt Ryan Kenneth T. Ramones, double-checked the records under the direct supervision of station commander Maj Genesis P. Oriel.
The suspect has been evading a warrant issued in 2014 for violation of Section 16 of Republic Act 9165 ( Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act). Notably, the court recommended no bail for his temporary liberty.
‘Systems are Working’
Oriel said the arrest proved the reliability of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) digital infrastructure.
“This arrest shows that our systems are working effectively. The moment the individual applied for a police clearance, our personnel were able to detect his standing warrant and immediately took proper action,” Oriel stated.
“No one can evade the law indefinitely. The PNP will continue to strengthen its processes and remain vigilant in serving warrants of arrest,” he added.
The suspect remains in the custody of the Talomo Police Station pending the turnover to the appropriate court.
