THE LEGAL team of Vice President Sara Z. Duterte dismissed the filing of fresh impeachment complaints as a predictable move, asserting that the accusations lack any genuine factual or legal merit.
In an official statement released to the media on Monday, Feb. 2, 2026, by Atty. Michael T. Poa, characterized the latest wave of complaints as part of a shaped political narrative rather than a legitimate constitutional exercise.
“Not merely political”
Citing recent jurisprudence, the defense team reminded the public and the complainants that the Supreme Court has set a high bar for anyone to remove a high-ranking official.
“Impeachment is ‘not merely a political process initiated by mere allegations or by perceived public acclaim shaped by the propagandistic effect of timed press releases or irresponsible viral posts on social media,'” the statement read.
The defense emphasized that the process must be governed strictly by standards, evidence, and due process.
Ready for the constitutional battle
Poa remains optimistic about the vice president’s position, stating that the team is ready to dismantle the allegations in the proper forum.
“We are prepared to confront these allegations squarely through the proper constitutional processes,” Poa added. “We are confident that a fair and impartial review will demonstrate that the accusations are devoid of both factual and legal basis.”
The statement signals a defiant stance from the OVP’s legal circle as the political temperature in the capital continues to rise.
