THE CITY College of Davao (CCD) celebrated its 6th founding anniversary on Thursday, January 22, since its institutionalization in January 2020.
The City College is a landmark project of the local government that provides free tertiary education to Davaoeño students.
The Sanguniang Panglungsod enacted City Ordinance No. 0198-20, establishing the City College of Davao (CCD). It officially started holding classes in August 2023 on its campus grounds in Barangay Catalunan Pequeno.
Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte led the celebration of the CCD with school president Wenefredo Cagape, Councilor Antoinette Principe, former Councilor Pilar Braga, and the CCD board of trustees.

Vice President Sara Duterte, who was the mayor when the CCD Ordinance was passed, said in her message that tertiary education should be a bridge, not a barrier, noting the significance of the city-run college.
“Education must be more than just a degree. It must be relevant by aligning your curriculum with industry demands,” Duterte said.
CCD, she added, ensures that its graduates are ready to contribute to the city’s development.
“This year’s theme, six years of service, excellence, and hope of Dabawenyos reflects our commitment to bridging that gap between dreams and reality. Through CCD, we are building a more resilient and competitive Davao,” Duterte said.
During the celebration, the academic awardees were also recognized with certificates, led by the mayor and the school president.
“To those who are working while studying, your hard work is what makes this college special. Your success is the ultimate proof that education is the greatest equalizer,” the vice president said, lauding the awardees.
The CCD campus in Catalunan Pequeño is a temporary site while its permanent location in Bago Oshiro is being developed.
Now on its third year of operation, the city college has about 1,000 students enrolled in courses including Bachelor of Technical-Vocational Teacher Education major in Heating Ventilating and Air-Conditioning Technology (HVACRT); Bachelor of Technical Vocational Teacher Education Major in Computer Programming; Bachelor in Early Childhood Education; and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship.
