THE QUICK action by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) prevented a potential disaster after a fuel tanker carrying thousands of liters of flammable liquid crashed along the busy MacArthur Highway in Dumoy on Thursday evening, Feb. 12.
According to the DCPO report, the truck, driven by Kris dela Torre Campomanes, was transporting a highly volatile cargo of 4,000 liters of diesel and 4,000 liters of gasoline toward a northern delivery point when it crashed into a concrete barrier.
The crash punctured the tank and caused approximately 300 liters of fuel to spill and spread across a 100-meter stretch of the highway.
The leak posed an immediate fire hazard to motorists and residents in the densely populated area.
DCPO acting director Col Mannan C. Muarip arrived at the scene to supervise the emergency operations. He ordered the immediate deployment of the Bureau of Fire Protection personnel and Central 911 rescuers for flushing and containment procedures.
Meanwhile, police units helped steer traffic away from the cordoned area to minimize disruption during cleanup.
“The prompt coordination and decisive response prevented further risks,” the DCPO stated in a statement.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
