THE NATIONAL Durian Industry Summit 2025 will gather 250 industry players on innovative strategies to strengthen durian production from Nov. 25 to 26 at the Grand Meng Seng Hotel.

Emmanuel Belviz, president of the Davao City Durian Industry Council (DCDIC), said this year’s summit will invite three international speakers from Thailand, Malaysia, and Australia to educate the participants on advanced techniques for growing durian.

Belviz hopes that the event will help boost the farmers and the durian industry in Davao City since the industry is now focusing on exportations.

“Malaysia and Thailand are the top producers of durian, and we can learn a lot from them, especially since, right now, it’s just our third year of exporting durian, and compared to Thailand, they have been exporting durian for 40 years,” he said during the PEP Talks on Nov 7.

He shared that the production and harvest suffered due to La Niña, and the export market price of Class A durians slightly decreased from P130 to P125. The three main exported durians are Puyat, D101, and the Duyaya varieties.

Puyat, regarded as a Class A, is eyed for exports at the Maylong Enterprises Corporation to sell to the Chinese market. The selected variant will undergo processes of grading and chilling (at 13-15°C) before being shipped to Guanzhong and Nanning.

The 1,400-square-meter facility, located in Tugbok District, has supplied 1,284 boxes with a net weight of 12,968 kg as of Oct 30, 2025. The company has also shipped 25,000 to 30,000 kilograms of durian every week, according to admin staff Jisril Rabe during a local media tour.

According to the China Customs, China’s durian imports have reached 1.56 million metric tons priced at $6.99B in 2024. Thailand also dominates as the largest supplier of durians in the Chinese market.
