A new page turns in the realm of page-to-screen adaptations.
This 2025, we’re seeing a lot of books getting their big or small screen treatment, and it’s a mixture of beloved classics to tender contemporary romances, as well as science fiction stories, heart-stopping thrillers, and even a romantasy involving dragons!
Below is a compiled list of books with adaptations currently in the works or streaming soon to keep on our radar.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Releasing on August 30, 2025, at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, followed by a limited theatrical release on Oct. 17, 2025
Since its publication in 1818, Frankenstein has inspired countless adaptations–short films, TV series, plays, and retellings. But the upcoming October big screen release is helmed by none other than Guillermo Del Toro. This novel is right up his alley, and it would be interesting to see his take on the world’s first science fiction novel, which, according to Del Toro, has been 30 years in the making – it’s a movie he wanted to make even before he had a camera. In an interview with Variety, del Toro shared that he views Frankenstein not only as a creature feature but also as a deeply moving family drama.
Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Releasing in March 2026
Prepare for a thrilling adventure in space, bookworms! Ryan Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a science teacher-turned-astronaut, who wakes up on a spaceship with amnesia and must do all he can to save Earth. Behind the screen are Hollywood heavyweights Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (producers of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and directors of The Lego Movie and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) and screenwriter Drew Goddard, who also adapted Weir’s novel, The Martian, for the screen. It would be interesting to see how Gosling, who has shown his comedic chops in Barbie and Fall Guy, will lend himself to the main character, who is both a funny guy and a reluctant hero. Well, we’ll have to wait and see and pray for the months to roll by quickly.
Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
Releasing sometime in 2025
Jenna Ortega stars in Oscar-winning Taika Waititi’s adaptation of Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun. As if that’s not enough to make you troop to the theaters, rounding up the cast are Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, and Simon Baker. Principal photography has begun, with some photos of Waikiki and Ortega shooting in the director’s hometown in New Zealand circulating online. Word has it the movie is currently in post-production, and as we wait, perhaps a revisiting of the novel, Klara and the Sun, by Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro is in order. For now, keep on refreshing that YouTube page; any day now, an official movie trailer will be out (we can’t wait!)
The Housemaid by Freida McFadden
Release date in December 2025
Filled with twists, turns, and dark reveals, The Housemaid by Freida McFadden took Booktok by storm. Millie, a down-on-her-luck ex-convict, gets hired as a housekeeper for a wealthy couple, the Winchesters. Days into her job, Millie discovers her dark past pales in comparison to the secrets her employers are hiding. Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried star in this psychological thriller film set for release in time for the Christmas season. It’s a holiday date at the movies, then.
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry
Releasing on Netflix in January 2026
Prepare to fall in love, as Netflix drops the film adaptation of People We Meet on Vacation in just a few months, and right in time for the summer season in the Philippines. If you haven’t read the book yet, Emily Henry’s rom-com masterpiece is about Alex and Poppy, two best friends who love each other, but it takes them a decade of vacationing together every year to figure it out. Actors Tom Blyth and Emily Bader star in the adaptation and are set to make the sparks fly. Brett Haley is set to direct, with Yulin Kuang (herself a bestselling romance author) adapting the screenplay. Mark your calendar and prepare for the butterflies.
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
Release 2026 or 2027
In 2023, Fourth Wing, book one of Rebecca Yarros’ romantasy series, took the bookish world by storm. There’s the rip-roaring elite war boarding school, an irresistible love story, a high-stakes fantasy, a kick-ass heroine, and did we mention dragons? It’s no surprise Amazon MGM Studios, and Michael B Jordan’s Outlier Society quickly came swooping down to nab the rights to a multi-season adaptation with each season covering one book from the Empyrean series. No announcement or leaked information yet on showrunners and cast, with articles online surmising release will either be next year or 2027. Until then, we have time to devour all the books.
Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Release Date 2026 or 2027
By now, Taylor Jenkins Reid is a household name, and the buzz around her latest work proves it. Atmosphere had its film adaptation announced even before the book’s release, a testament to the excitement it’s generating.
Atmosphere is a soaring story of ambition, friendship, and love set during NASA’s 1980s Space Shuttle program, following Joan, a physics professor, who joins a team of trailblazing astronauts. Emmy-winning director Anna Boden and writer Ryan Fleck— known for Captain Marvel and It’s Kind of a Funny Story— are set to bring this heart-pounding story to life. While we wait for more details about the adaptation, immerse yourself in the novel and imagine which Hollywood stars will embody its unforgettable cast.
The Husbands by Holly Gramazio
No confirmed release date yet
Last year, Holly Gramazio’s humorous/magic-realist novel captivated our imagination with her protagonist going home one night and finding an endless supply of husbands in her attic. As she tries each husband, her life changes, and she gets a different version each time. It’s fascinating as it is inviting, and it seems Apple TV thinks so too. Apple TV recently announced an eight-episode comedic drama of the same name, starring Juno Temple (Ted Lasso, Fargo, Atonement) as Laurie, the main character. Pretty exciting, huh?
Deep Cuts by Holy Brickley
Release date TBA
Music-centered stories have a way of pulling audiences in—often leaving us with severe LSS. Think Music and Lyrics or Bohemian Rhapsody. Now, there’s another music-filled film to look forward to, based on Holly Brickley’s novel Deep Cuts. The story follows Percy, a young woman whose obsession with music intertwines with her complicated relationship with musician Joe. From Brooklyn bars to San Francisco dance floors, Deep Cuts captures the highs and lows of love set against the pulse of the 2000s music scene. Adding to the excitement, Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler are set to star.
The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

And… rounding out our list is a taut and intense thriller about a travel magazine writer, Lo, who boards a luxury cruise to wine and dine. But as the weeks wear on, and as frigid winds whip the ship, Lo witnesses a woman being thrown overboard, only to be told she just imagined it. Starring Keira Knightley, The Woman in Cabin 10 streams on Netflix this coming October 10 (just a few winks of sleep away!)
