AN ELECTRICAL fire razed at least 60 houses and left dozens of families homeless in Barangay 23-C, early Monday morning, Sept. 8.
According to a report from the Davao City Police Office, the fire started at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Sept. 8 at the house of a Sigang Macalbe in Purok 4, Quezon Boulevard.
The flames quickly spread to neighboring houses, which were made of light materials, causing a conflagration that swept through the densely populated area.
Fire investigators, including SFO1 Rich Michael Gamot of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), determined the cause to be electrical ignition.
The BFP XI declared the fire under control at 5:12 a.m. and officially declared a “fire out” at 5:51 a.m., nearly three hours after the first alarm was raised.
Initial reports from the BFP estimated the damage to be around ₱700,000.
Firefighting units from BFP XI, Central 911 Fire Auxiliary, Filipino-Chinese Firefighters, and Toril Fire Volunteers responded to the scene.
Police personnel from the local station, under the supervision of Lt Renator Fiel, were also dispatched to provide area security and prevent looting.
While the fire destroyed a significant number of homes, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.
Meanwhile, the affected families are now being assisted by local authorities and disaster response teams.
