FOLLOWING the conclusion of the national selection for the Southeast Asia Green Coffee Competition (SEAGCC), 10 top-quality Arabica and Robusta entries will represent the Philippines and showcase the finest coffees on the global stage.
The identified entries will compete in the upcoming SEAGCC international round that will be held at Sultan Kudarat Convention Center, Tacurong City, on Oct. 5 to 9, under the evaluation of an international panel of experts.
Simultaneous activities will also be conducted during the five-day event, which includes technical talks and a Philippine coffee roasting competition.
Among the 10 winners of the Arabica category, eight are from Davao del Sur. Out of the 10 Robusta category winners, seven are from Sultan Kudarat.
Last Jul 21 to 25, at the Special Coffee Depot held in Juna Subdivision, Davao City, the entries were identified as the country’s best and high-grade coffee, where their expertise ensured critical elements on integrity, quality benchmarking, and traceability of the selection process.
During the Kapehan sa Dabaw, Emeline Sabado, Filipino Coffee Institute executive director, shared that 62 farmers submitted their best coffee and were evaluated by 12 coffee Q graders across the country.
The national selection for the competition was co-hosted by the Department of Agriculture XI and its High Value Crops Development Program.
