PSA report: Births increase while marriages drop sharply in Davao Region in 2025

BIRTH registrations in Davao Region slightly increased in 2025 while marriages fell by double digits compared to 2024, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) XI on Monday, July 13.

According to the agency report as of April 30, 2026, there were 68,314 live births in the region in 2025, up by 0.04% from 68,290 in 2024.

Of the births recorded, 35,540 were males, and 32,774 were females, yielding a sex ratio of 108 males for every 100 females.

Live birth refers to the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, which, after separation, shows evidence of life.

PSA reported that Davao City accounted for the largest share of births at 34.1% or 23,309 cases for the period.

This is followed by Davao del Norte with 21.2% (14,505), Davao de Oro with 16.4% (11,207), Davao del Sur with 13% (8,892), Davao Oriental with 11.8% (8,030), and Davao Occidental with 3.5% (2,371).

Marriages registered in the region, on the other hand, dropped sharply to 16,635 in 2025 from 20,439 in 2024, a decline of 18.6%.

Davao City recorded the highest rate and share of marriages at 33.2% (5,527).

Marriage is defined as a special contract of permanent union between a man and a woman entered into in accordance with law for the establishment of conjugal and family life.

This was followed by Davao del Norte with 25.9% (4,305), Davao de Oro with 14.9% (2,484), Davao del Sur with 12.8% (2,129), Davao Oriental with 9.4% (1,558), and Davao Occidental with 3.8% (632).

On the other hand, deaths in the region likewise declined by 11.9%, falling to 31,160 in 2025 from 35,377 in 2024.

Male deaths outnumbered female deaths, with 17,972 recorded among males against 13,188 among females.

Davao City posted the highest number of deaths at 31.7% (9,868).

It was followed by Davao del Norte with 22.3% (6,947), Davao de Oro with 15.5% (4,826), Davao del Sur with 13.4% (4,175), Davao Oriental with 12.3% (3,820), and Davao Occidental with 4.9% (1,524).
