THE EASTERN Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) denied reports circulating on social media regarding the alleged establishment of an Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) site in Davao City.

Speaking during the Davao Peace and Security Press Briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, March 18, EastMinCom spokesperson Lt. Col. Ryann Velez said the designation of EDCA sites is handled by the Department of National Defense (DND).

“As of now, there is no such information,” Velez stated, noting that the nearest confirmed EDCA site remains located in Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City.

When questioned about the necessity of an EDCA site in the region, Velez maintained that they are not currently required.

“So far, the current  EDCA sites are planned well, and I think for now, we don’t need it,” Velez said.

He noted that existing sites were well-planned and sufficient for the present operational environment.

For his part, Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) chief Angel Sumagaysay echoed the military’s stance, confirming that his office had not received such information.

Velez urged the public to be responsible and validate news through reliable sources before sharing posts.

“We were surprised by the rumor of an EDCA site in Davao,” Velez said. “It is our responsibility as individuals not to share misinformation. We must ensure the information reaching the public is confirmed and validated”.
