THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) launched a specialized seminar on Thursday, Sept. 17, aimed at sharpening the ability of front-line officers and investigators to detect and counter emerging nihilistic violent extremism.
Held at the DCPO Presidential Hall in Camp Captain Domingo E. Leonor, the awareness seminar brought together 63 key personnel from 19 police stations, including station commanders, deputy commanders, senior investigators, and Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) officers.
National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) deputy regional director Quincy Quimsing, who served as the guest of honor and speaker, underscored the role of proactive intelligence gathering and early detection in preventing extremist recruitment and radicalization.
“Awareness is our first line of defense against extremism,” Quimsing said.
DCPO director PCOL Peter B. Madria highlighted that training station-level investigators and WCPD officers is vital to ensuring local police units can identify subtle indicators of violent extremism before they manifest in communities.
“Through education and cooperation, we build resilience and ensure Davao City remains secure against extremist threats,” Madria said.
The specialized orientation forms part of the DCPO’s broader counter-terrorism and intelligence-driven community policing strategy across the region’s 19 police precincts.
