THE NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to file charges against twelve officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) District office in Davao City.

The reason? Investigators from the NBI Regional Office have found evidence that certain flood control projects in Davao City were implemented with anomalies, whatever those are.

In a press briefing, NBI spokesperson Elias Leano said the agency’s probers found that certain flood control projects are “incomplete and substandard.”

But what was not stated by Leano is the location of the “substandard” and “incomplete” flood control projects. Meaning the NBI official was extremely careful not to antagonize certain national officials in the city who represent the districts or areas where the questionable projects are located.

Was Leano talking too soon and disclosing raw information that could work in favor of the prospective accused?

“Let us to see.”

Who is this police general who is reported in the social media as facing administrative charges after he was seen wearing very expensive shoes while in his uniform?

The shoe brand is estimated to cost P70 thousand pesos – an amount short of the salary of a one-star police general.

We are just wondering why the netizen who saw the P70 thousand shoes appears to have missed seeing a number of policemen who are even lower in rank than the officer wearing the expensive shoes, but are driving expensive sports utility vehicles (SUVs).

Of course, these days, when car dealers are so numerous and competing for patronage of a limited market, cars can be acquired even in a “no downpayment” scheme and as long as five years to amortize. So, if a police officer 1 whose wife also works either as a teacher or an office worker, a monthly amortization of say P15,000 to PP30,000 would still be affordable with not much head scratching when the due date comes.

But we cannot stop people from harboring doubts as to the reason why policemen these days are driving luxurious cars.

After all, when one wields power of any kind, opportunities of all sorts also come. If one gets greedy and ambitious, he or she becomes vulnerable to temptation.

Our heart-felt Congratulations to Second District Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang. He is now the proud father to a daughter who passed the recent bar examination. His daughter Leexie is one of more than five thousand passers in the 2025 bar examination. And according to Councilor Danny, she made it despite her busy schedule as former director of a government Commission while still studying law and reviewing for the bar exams.

Congrats again, Councilor Danny.

The defense team of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte again failed to convince the members of the Pre-trial Chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to allow the defense to have a copy of the report of experts hired by the ICC to check on the fitness of the former Philippine leader to stand trial, as well as the reason why the Chamber believes that Duterte is a potential flight risk if released even temporarily.

And to think that several vlogs have been coming out, apparently coming from the camp of the former President, saying that both the United States and Russian governments are reported to be “freezing” the accounts of the ICC and issuing warrants of arrest to the ICC judges.

In the same vein, we read another post questioning the behavior of the Chinese government on the arrest by the US of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. According to the vlogger, he was surprised at the quickness of China in reacting adversely against the US action against Maduro. But in the case of former President Duterte’s “kidnapping” by the ICC through its local lackeys in the Philippines, China did not say anything. Yet, Duterte is clearly one strong pro-China Philippine President.

Indeed, why the giant Asian country is aping the “silence of the lamb?
