A 59-YEAR-OLD provincial government employee was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Purok Bayanihan, Barangay Zone 2, Digos City, at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5.

The sting was a joint effort of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) XI and the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office Drug Enforcement Unit.

Authorities moved in to arrest the suspect after he allegedly sold one plastic sachet of suspected shabu worth ₱8,000 to an undercover PDEA agent acting as a poseur-buyer.

Following the arrest, a search led to the recovery of five heat-sealed sachets of suspected shabu weighing 9 grams and costing ₱72,000, various drug paraphernalia, and the marked buy-bust money.

The suspect is currently in custody and faces a charge for violating Republic Act No. 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PDEA XI regional director Gaspi emphasized that the arrest of a government worker underscores the agency’s “no-nonsense” approach to the drug war. “This arrest serves as a reminder to the public that authorities remain committed to maintaining a safe and drug-free community, regardless of the suspect’s position,” Gaspi stated.
