THE DAVAO City Police Office filed criminal charges against three individuals caught in the act of smashing through the glass doors of the Agdao Multipurpose Cooperative (AMPC) main office in Bo. Obrero during a takeover attempt over the weekend.
DCPO spokesperson LTCOL Ma. Teresita Gaspan confirmed during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps media briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday, Sept. 16, that malicious mischief charges were formally lodged via inquest proceedings against the three suspects.
Gaspan said responding officers caught the trio using carpentry tools to break the entry doors of the cooperative’s headquarters along Lapu-Lapu Street, Agdao, on Sunday, Sept. 13.
The commotion erupted when a rogue faction of members and former officers attempted to forcibly oust the incumbent management and seize control of the financial institution’s premises.
“Investigators are currently reviewing security footage and gathering eyewitness statements to identify other conspirators who participated in the disturbance for inclusion in the charge sheet,” Gaspan added.
Background of the Dispute
The violent breach marked the latest escalation in a bitter, long-running internal leadership struggle within the Agdao Multipurpose Cooperative—one of the largest cooperative institutions in the Davao Region.
The rift stems from contested board elections and administrative disputes between the sitting management and a breakaway group composed of disgruntled members and former personnel.
Tensions have repeatedly spilled over into physical standoffs at the main office, prompting law enforcement intervention, intervention by the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA), and inquiry hearings by the Davao City Council to safeguard member assets and restore operational stability.
