THE PHILIPPINE Eagle Foundation (PEF), with the support of the Czech Embassy in the Philippines, formally opens the Global Biodiversity Conservation Conference 2025 (GBCC) on Oct. 1 to gather scientists, international partners, and advocates on biodiversity challenges.
Co-hosted also by the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao, the Liberec Zoo, the Czech University of Life Sciences, the Czech Coalition for Biodiversity Conservation, the conference highlights groundbreaking research, knowledge sharing, including the ridge-to-reef approach for conservation strategies in the marine ecosystem in the Philippines.
The event runs from Oct 1 to 3 and provides a platform to position the critically endangered Philippine eagle as a global flagship for conservation and engage with IP communities in safeguarding the forests and the species’s habitat in the ancestral domain.
GBCC 2025 is being undertaken by the “Philippine Eagle Species Action Plan” (2024 to 2034) that is spearheaded by PEF’s key partner, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB), as well as coinciding with UP Mindanao’s 30th anniversar,y where the university has served as a vital hub for research and training in the region.
Karel Hejč, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Philippines, stated in an interview that the event represents international cooperation, involving a veterinarian from Italy, a conservationist from Spain, and a technician from Germany who supplies incubators. Their contributions have been recognized.

Last Sept 30, 2024, PEF forged a partnership with Liberec Zoo and Zoo Wuppertal from Germany to strengthen the Philippine eagles’ breeding program to equip the foundation with tools, training, and knowledge to increase the population of the species in captivity and improve the Philippine Eagle Center’s (PEC) breeding efforts.
PEF presently has the vital equipment of incubators + IC Unit, microscope, AI + cryopreservation, and other tools for artificial insemination, egg management, semen analysis and storage, and cryopreservation of semen.
