THE PARTIDO Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) has issued a formal appeal to the current administration to allow former President Rodrigo Duterte to return home from his detention at the International Criminal Court.
The party, through a statement from its acting chairman Alfonso G. Cusi, framed the request as a matter of humanity and honor, not politics.
“Hindi ito usapin ng politika, kundi usapin ng pagkatao (This is not a matter of politics, but a matter of humanity),” the statement read.
The appeal emphasizes that what is at stake is the “life and honor of a fellow Filipino.”
It urges President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to facilitate the former president’s return, citing that Duterte “only wishes to rest in the country he served.”
The PDP also called on the Filipino public to support their appeal, highlighting a shared national identity.
“In the face of all trials, one thing cannot be denied—we share one race, one blood, and one Motherland,” the statement concluded.
The public appeal was made by Cusi on behalf of the party.
In an interview with national media, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Wednesday shrugged off the request, saying the Philippine government does not care about the opinions of his legal counsel.
