THE PHILIPPINE Navy’s efforts to modernize its fleet and strengthen its maritime defense capabilities took a significant step forward on September 16 with the arrival of three new vessels at Macabalan Wharf in Cagayan de Oro City.

The newly commissioned ships, BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06), BRP Tomas Campo (PG-908), and BRP Albert Majini (PG-909), were formally welcomed by the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) during a ceremonial event.

The arrival is part of the Philippine Navy’s “Show the Flag Mission,” an initiative aimed at assessing naval operational readiness and promoting public awareness of its growing assets.

The mission also seeks to foster stronger relationships with local government officials, partner agencies, and other stakeholders within the Eastern Mindanao region.

Guests were allowed to tour the vessels, witnessing the advanced technology and capabilities that will enhance the nation’s ability to safeguard its territorial waters.

The BRP Miguel Malvar is a guided missile frigate equipped for multi-role operations, representing a major upgrade to the Navy’s combat capabilities.

The two accompanying Acero-class Fast Attack Interdiction Crafts, the BRP Tomas Campo and BRP Albert Majini, are armed with Spike-ER missiles and Typhoon weapon systems, designed for swift and effective coastal defense.

A highlight of this acquisition is the BRP Albert Majini, which was locally built at the Philippine Navy Shipyard in Cavite, marking a significant milestone in the country’s pursuit of defense self-sufficiency.

This deployment of modern, multi-role vessels to Eastern Mindanao underscores the Philippine Navy’s commitment to protecting the nation’s maritime interests and ensuring a visible and credible naval presence in the region.
