AUTHORITIES intercepted approximately ₱670,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes at the Sirawan entry point in Toril District at 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, July 5.
The suspect, identified as alias Nudirna, a 50-year-old married resident of Necesito, Acacia 2, Barangay Poblacion III, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, was driving a white Mitsubishi Strada pick-up with plate number LAK 6884.
The vehicle was traveling from Zamboanga City en route to Davao City.
The operation, a collaborative effort between Task Force Davao, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), and the Bureau of Internal Revenue Region XI (BIR XI), led to the seizure of 852 reams of Bosqu and Greenhill brand cigarettes, with an estimated street value of ₱669,501.
The suspect is now facing a charge for violation of the Republic Act 4712, also known as “An Act Amending Certain Sections of the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines.”
Task Force Davao commander Colonel Rodrigo A. Marinas Jr. lauded the vigilance and strict security inspections carried out by personnel from Task Force Davao and the Davao City Police Office at the city’s entry points.
The suspect and the confiscated smuggled cigarettes are currently in the custody of Police Station 8 (PS8), DCPO, and the Bureau of Customs Region XI (BOC XI) for appropriate disposition and further investigation.
